Chilled in Guernsey

I’m still in Guernsey, with a few more days to go before I move on again. This week has been a slow one - in the best way. I’ve properly slipped into holiday mode.
Guernsey always feels like a bit of a bubble. It’s easy to forget the wider world exists when you’re here. And even easier to forget just how beautiful this island is when you’ve been away - especially at this time of year. Sunshine, flowers in bloom, crystal-clear waters on every side... it’s the kind of place that makes you stop and stare, even if you’ve seen it all before.
One highlight of the week was meeting up with a fellow photographer - a longtime friend who originally encouraged me to take photography more seriously. He generously lent me one of his old drones to experiment with, and my god, it was so much fun. There’s something about seeing the world from above that instantly renews your sense of wonder. A whole new way to fall in love with familiar landscapes.
I also had an unexpected encounter while trying some street portraiture. I approached an older man walking two dogs, only for him to reveal he was a photographer too. Turns out, he also shoots street portraits—and he agreed to pose for me, on the condition he could photograph me as well. Deal.
Beyond those creative moments, I’ve been cooking, cleaning, mowing lawns, reading, playing games, and generally being an amazing (yet modest) son while staying with my parents.
Next up: Bodmin. It’s going to be a long day - an eight-hour ferry followed by a four-hour drive from Portsmouth. Doesn’t sound particularly fun on paper, but as I’m learning, there’s always something to make of it.
